There are so many shoes out on the market for women that it can be overwhelming to go shoe shopping, but it is even harder for women with wide feet.
If you are looking for the best shoes for wide feet women, you might find yourself struggling to determine which shoes actually work for wide feet.
We have broken down the best wide shoes for women by type to help you find the perfect shoes for your feet.
Whether you need wide or extra wide women’s shoes, we have found the perfect pair for you.
Women's Shoes Sizing
Women’s shoe sizing is unfortunately not always straight forward. There is a huge range in size and width even between brands and styles that you cannot just assume that you are the same size across the board.
Women’s shoes come in narrow, medium, wide, and extra wide widths. Medium widths are by and large the easiest to find, making wider shoes scarcer.
The concept is even trickier when you take into account that European shoes do not usually even offer wide sizing, adding to the difficulty of finding the right width of shoes. We go over how to measure your foot below.
Wide shoes usually are somewhere between 3.5 inches and 5 inches across, depending on the length of your foot.
You should consult with a size chart for the shoe that you are interested in buying to confirm width before you decide to buy them. It will save you trouble.

How To Measure Wide And Extra Wide Feet
When it comes to measuring for your wide or extra wide feet, it is good if you have a buddy available to help you out. Stand barefoot with a sheet of paper under each foot.
Standing tall and straight, have your buddy draw an outline around your foot. Then, hop off of the paper. Use a ruler to measure the length and the width of your foot.
For the width, make sure you are measuring across the widest part of your toebox. Then, you can compare the measurements to the sizing chart of the brand you are looking at.
Do You Need To Break Into Wide Shoes?
While most shoes have a brief period of breaking in, you should not need to break in your wide shoes any more than a person with narrow feet breaks in theirs. Also, keep in mind that some types of shoes such as heels do not stretch so make sure that you buy wide width heels.
Shoes might be slightly tight when you buy them, but they should not be uncomfortable or painful. Not all types of materials stretch over time and not all shoes will break in.
Do not get a regular width of shoe if you have wide feet and just hope that they will stretch around your feet the more that you wear them. You are just setting yourself up for pain and injury.
Final Words
Ultimately, it is hard to have just one type of best shoes for wide feet women. There are so many different types of shoes available for all occasions, so the best shoes for your needs might not match up with someone else’s needs.
